Neighborhoods

One of the rewards of being a real estate agent in Memphis is that I am immersed in neighborhoods.  While many  agents are generalists, geographically, covering the vastness of Shelby, Tipton and Fayette Counties, as well as obtaining a Mississippi license to cover areas south of the border, I tend to focus on the in city areas:  Midtown, Downtown and East Memphis.  Spending most of my time, both business and personal,  in a relatively small geographical area, I get  a bit closer to the Neighborhood Experience.

Neighborhood choice is as important as the choice of a property.  Are amenities I want close by?  What about the schools?  Is it safe?  Are there kids nearby?  Is there an active neighborhood association?  I spend a lot of time with clients moving from out of town exploring neighborhoods, and when they begin to focus on a neighborhood or 2, I encourage them to visit at all hours of the day and night.  Take a walk, drive around, visit some local hangouts, ask the locals about what’s great about their neighborhood.  In Midtown Memphis, it’s:  are you more Evergreen or Central Gardens?  More Cooper-Young or Vollentine-Evergreen?  The same differentiation applies to other areas of town.   Downtown is a totally different experience, as is East Memphis.
